Phillip Saunders from the Waimate North Anglican Parish, has written a hymn about Oihi Bay. It is based on a poem written by Ted Buckle who was an Anglican Bishop in the north. Click here to listen to the hymn and view the words.


An archealogical investigation at Oihi Bay, around the site of the Marsden Cross, was carried out in February 2012 and January 2013. It is a joint project between the University of Otago and the Department of Conservation, and it made some fantastic finds!

The site where Rev. Samuel Marsden preached his first sermon on Christmas Day 1814 is Marsden Cross Historic Reserve. The Department of Conservation is continuing work around the site in preparations for the planned bicentenary events. Read more. The Marsden Cross Trust Board also has plans for a heritage centre at Oihi. Read more.


The Church Mission Society are also planning to celebrate the bicentenary with a series of events. Link to their website.
